Introducing a smart tool PowerBoM & How to use it : A step by step guide
Sourcing components for PCB assembly can be a time-consuming and error-prone process, often leading to mismatched parts, incorrect quantities, and eventually procurement delays. Manually managing a Bill of Materials (BoM) increases the risk of errors, affecting production timelines and overall efficiency. Engineers and buyers struggle with data inconsistencies, supplier coordination, and last-minute part shortages, making component sourcing a critical bottleneck.

What is PowerBoM?
PowerBoM is an advanced Bill of Materials (BoM) management tool that automates and optimizes the component sourcing process for PCB assembly. It ensures accurate mapping, reduces sourcing errors, and simplifies procurement, making it an essential solution for both prototype and production runs.

How to Use PowerBoM?
On our Instant Quote page, once you have filled all the details about your PCB like Name, Quantity, material, size etc., scroll down to option of uploading BOM file and follow below steps -
1. Upload Your BoM File:
Simply drag and drop or upload your BOM file in .xls, .xlsx or .csv format to get started. The system will automatically begin processing your data.
2. Map Mandatory Columns (Screen 1):
Ensure all key columns are correctly mapped:
- MPN (Manufacturer Part Number)
- Quantity
- Reference Designator
- Manufacturer Name
*All the columns in your file which were not mapped, will also be visible on the next screen and entire data will be shared with our team. Mapping the mandatory column helps our team getting the necessary information without any errors
3. Review, Verify & Finalize (Screen 2):
On this screen, you’ll have full control over your BOM details:
- Mapped and Unmapped Columns: Any columns from your file that were not mapped will still be visible and sent to our team for reference.
- Verified and Unverified Components: Some components might not be verified by the PowerBoM tool. This does not necessarily mean they are invalid—our team will reach out to you to discuss them further.
- BOM Health Check: Located at the top right corner, this shows how many components have been successfully verified by PowerBoM.
- DNP Selection: You can choose if any components should be marked as Do Not Populate (DNP) by using the toggle button.
- Component Supplied By Selection:
- Turnkey Orders: The "Supplied By" field will default to PCB Power.
- Consigned Orders: The "Supplied By" field will default to Customer.
- Combo Orders: You will have the option to toggle between PCB Power and Customer.
You can also edit certain details while verifying them.
Click on the “Edit” button at the top right hand side to:
- Edit Component Details: Modify MPN, quantity, remarks, description, and other details as needed.
- Delete Components: If required, you can delete components while in edit mode. Simply select them using the checkbox and click "Delete Selected Rows" on the top right corner.
Once you are done editing the details as required, click “Save” to save your edits.
4. Submit Your BoM:
Before submitting, double-check all MPNs and component details.
After careful review and verification click on “Submit” at bottom right hand side. Once you submit, your BoM file will be uploaded on Instant Quote page and you can move further with placing your PCB order.
